About Lucy Readman

I am a Costume Designer currently studying at Wimbledon College of Art. My work is research-driven and conceptually motivated through my love for storytelling. I am drawn to subversive retellings of traditional stories through creative and contemporary lenses. Within costume, I focus on menswear and LGBTQ+ tailoring, with a special interest in historical uniforms and their relationships with masculinity. I enjoy millinery, particularly folk costume and masks.

I have worked with The Bowes Museum to collaboratively curate exhibitions and interventions on LGBTQ+ history and inclusivity, co-founding the Be You At The Bowes LGBTQ+ Group.  I have a strong passion for diverse narratives that have gone unheard historically and re-contextualising them through authentic and appreciative interpretations. I am currently part of English Heritage's Young Producers Internship.
